MENTONE – LeRoy Markley, 78, Mentone, died at 7:52 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.

He was born June 17, 1940, in Warsaw, to Harold and Esther Reed Markley.

He was a school teacher. He taught for Grass Creek for one year, Oregon-Davis for one year and West Noble for 30 years.

He was a 1958 graduate of Mentone High School and continued his education attaining his bachelor’s degree in 1962 from Manchester College. He received his master’s degree from Ball State University in 1965, achieving 30 additional hours of credit above his master’s.

He was a member of the American Horticultural Society. He also was on the board of directors of the International Carnival Glass Association as well as being secretary for 35 years. He was the recipient of the Frank Fenton Award in 2012. He was treasurer of the Hoosier Carnival Glass Association for many years.

Lee was also a member of the Republican National Committee and Mentone First Baptist Church, and president of the Mentone Alumni Association. He was known to spend time socializing at Teel’s Restaurant as well as Java Jacks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Esther Markley.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.

Visitation is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at King Memorial Home.
