NAPPANEE – Elva Helmuth, age 81, of Nappanee, passed away at 7:53 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1940, in Etna Green, to Floyd and Mary Ann Miller Chupp. On May 8, 1962, Elva married Vernon “Lee” Helmuth in Etna Green. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2019.
She was a lifetime resident of the Etna Green area and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Surviving and mourning her loss are her three children: Rebecca Terisa (Marlin) Chupp, of Nappanee; Steve Helmuth, of Nappanee; and Mary Jane Helmuth of Leesburg; five grandchildren: LeAnn Renee Chupp, of Nappanee; Marcus Shawn Chupp, of Nappanee; Michelle Diane Garza, of North Hutchinson, Fla.; Melanie Diane Garza, of Leesburg; and Edison Garza, of Leesburg; one great-granddaughter, Nina Nicole Hart, of North Webster; three sisters: Edna Chupp, of Nappanee; Katie Bontrager, of Shipshewana; and Martha (Toby) Yoder, of Goshen; brother-in-law, Melvin Stutzman, of Etna Green; two sisters-in-law, Ellen Chupp and Minerva Chupp, both of Nappanee; two stepbrothers, LeRoy Miller, of Munfordville, Ky.; and David (Katie) Miller, of Middlefield, Ohio; one stepsister, Kathryn (Eli) Weaver, of Middlefield, Ohio; and a stepbrother-in-law, Albert Weaver, of Meadville, Pa. Elva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother, Savilla Chupp; six brothers: Elmer, John, Daniel, William, Emery and Lamar Chupp; one sister, Anna Mae Stutzman; one brother-in-law, Perry Bontrager; four sisters-in-law: Dorothy, Sylvia, Amanda and Beverly Chupp; four stepsisters: Sarah (Levi) Hershberger, Savannah Miller, Dena Troyer and Lena Weaver; and one stepsister-in-law, Saloma Miller.
Friends and family may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 and all day Wednesday, May 25 at the Gerald Schwartz residence, 9229 N Ind. 19, Etna Green. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 9:30 a.m. also at the Gerald Schwartz residence with the home ministry of the Old Order Amish Church officiating. Burial will take place in Graber Cemetery. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
