AKRON – Valley’s Layne Prater hurled a one-hitter against Whitko on Wednesday and led the Vikings to a 10-0 Three Rivers Conference win in five innings.

The Vikings got on the board early with a run in the first inning, but picked up the pace in the second with four runs. They added three more in the third and two in the fourth to push the lead to 10-0.

Valley held the Wildcats in the top of the fifth to put the run rule into effect.

Prater allowed one hit in the shortened contest due. He struck out six and walked four in the stellar performance.

At the plate, he tallied three hits to lead the team. He also added an RBI.

Valley’s Adam Myers, Ethan Yates and Tanner Trippiedi all had two hits. Trippiedi had the game’s lone extra base hit with a triple. Lucas Walters and Yates each had two RBIs.

Drew Hartman, Tucker Shull and Walters all had stolen bases for the Vikings.

River West went the distance for Whitko. He pitched four innings and allowed 12 hits, 10 runs, four walks while striking out one Valley batter.

Clayton Ebbinghouse had the only hit for the Wildcats.

Whitko plays at Bluffton tonight in a nonconference contest. Valley visits Twin Lakes on Saturday.
