Wawasee Battles For Conference Win Over Pilgrims

PLYMOUTH – Visiting Wawasee and Plymouth battled throughout the second half of their Northern Lakes Conference boys basketball game, with the Warriors earning a 48-46 win over the Pilgrims Friday night.

Wawasee took a 9-2 lead after the first quarter, then surrendered the advantage and then some, as Plymouth led 15-14 at halftime. The game was tied at 28 at the end of three quarters.

Austin Miller had a team-high 17 points for Wawasee. Kameron Salazar had 11, Jack Stover eight and Ethan Hardy seven points in the winning effort.

Jakob Reichard had a game-high 19 points for Plymouth.

The junior varsity game also went Wawasee’s way, 47-37 over Plymouth. Collin Roberson had 16 points for the Warriors, with Caden Welty adding seven points and Landon Gause and Marten Kent adding six points each.

Wawasee (8-5, 1-3 NLC) snapped its 10-game conference losing streak. The Warriors host Bethany Christian Tuesday.

Squires rally for road win

ROCHESTER – Trailing by five points entering the fourth quarter, Manchester rallied for a 48-47 win at Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference boys basketball game Friday night.

Senior Thane Creager led a balanced Squire attack with 13 points, and classmate Caleb Stout added 12 points. Juniors Max Carter and Weston Hamby had eight and seven points, respectively, with Kreeden Krull adding six points and Austin Underwood getting a bucket for Manchester.

Krull had nine rebounds and Carter gathered eight boards in the winning effort.

Manchester’s junior varsity picked up a 37-29 win over the Zebras. No statistics were available as of press time.

The Squires, now 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference, travel to Akron to take on Tippecanoe Valley for a TRC matchup Friday.

Trojans win tourney

consolation game

LAKEVILLE – Ashton Oviedo had 14 points and Tyler Heckaman added 11 points for Triton in its 55-29 win over Oregon-Davis in a consolation round of the Bi-County boys basketball tournament at LaVille High School Friday night.

Keegan Westafer had nine points for the Trojans. The rest of the Triton scorers were: Jared Bules 7, Tyson Yates 7, John Gardner 4 and Quentin Amsden 3.

Now 7-4, Triton will host Elkhart Christian in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Vikings fall at Southwood

WABASH – A big scoring gap in the third quarter proved to be the difference in Tippecanoe Valley’s 63-59 loss at Southwood in Three Rivers Conference boys basketball Friday night.

The Vikings had a three-point lead at halftime before the Knights outscored the visitors 23-11 in the third period. Valley closed the gap in the final quarter, but couldn’t overcome the deficit.

Freshman Paul Leasure led all scorers with 20 points for Valley. Dawson Perkins had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nolan Cumberland had 10 points in the contest for the Vikings.

Southwood also won the junior varsity contest, 63-59 over Valley.  Chase Miller had 18 points and Brendyn Stump added 13 for the Vikings.

Valley won the C-team game 29-24. Dom Welk had six points to lead the Vikings.

Tippecanoe Valley (6-8, 2-3 TRC) hosts Manchester Friday in a conference game.
