SOUTH WHITLEY – The Tippecanoe Valley Lady Vikings basketball team entered Friday night’s contest with a five-game win streak, and looked to extend it against Whitko.

Valley did just that.

Backed by junior Sidney Wagner’s 15 points, Tippecanoe Valley routed the host Whitko Lady Wildcats 58-14 in Three Rivers Conference play.

Senior Jillian Walls contributed with 12 points for Valley (11-2 overall, 4-0 TRC)—all of which came by way of made three-point baskets. Senior Karina Young finished with 10 points and senior Emma Craig chipped in with eight points.

For Whitko (1-9 overall, 0-4 TRC), freshman Morgan Howard scored eight points, while sophomore Kylie Fugett posted three points.

The Lady Wildcats were 6-of-22 from the field, and had turned the ball over 39 times.

Despite being in control throughout the game, the Lady Vikes were 10-for-25 from the free throw line.

“I thought we got off to a decent start, it’s one of those things where we start playing different combinations that we have not played a lot together, it looks a little ragged at times,” said Tippecanoe Valley girls head basketball coach Chris Kindig. “But I thought that our girls had come out with the right mindset.”

With the win, Tippecanoe Valley remains unbeaten in the TRC and sits atop the conference standings.

“It’s a conference game, so it was not like we wanted to back off too much,” said Kindig. “I thought we did a good job of creating turnovers, and I thought we did a good job of creating pressure.”

Both squads enter the winter break with rest that will go into the new year. Valley resumes action Saturday, Jan. 4 when they face Lakeland in the Concord Classic at Concord High School. Whitko has a longer break, as they will not play again until Jan. 11, when they face off against Rochester.
