Wawasee Advances Past Whitko In Sectional Play

The Wawasee girls tennis team won 5-0 over Whitko in the opening round of the Warsaw Sectional on Wednesday.

The Lady Warriors won all five matches in straight sets. 

At No. 1 singles, Kendra Doerr won 6-1, 6-1 against Whitko’s Jackie Werstler. In the No. 2 singles match, Elizabeth Kleopfer won 6-1, 6-2 over Natalie Iholtz.

In the No. 3 singles match, Kennedy Church defeated Kayla Schipper 6-1, 6-4.

Kabrea Rostochak and Courtney Larson of the Lady Warriors won 6-2, 6-1 against Mahkinsey Myers and Jenna Vancuren. The No. 2 doubles pair of Brianna Haessig and Molly Jones won 6-0, 6-3 over Izzy Rayner and Katherine Ousley.

The Lady Wildcats finished the season with a record of 3-5.

Wawasee plays against Columbia City tonight in the second round of the Warsaw Sectional.

Lady Squires Escape With First-Round Victory

PERU – The Manchester Lady Squire tennis team won 3-2 against Peru in the first round of the Peru Sectional Wednesday evening.

Both of Manchester’s No. 1 matches lost. Kelsey Eichenauer lost 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Anna Osborne and Kendra Auler fell 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Halle Briner won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Lydia Little won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The No. 2 doubles duo of Lauren Metzger and Rebekah Pyle won 6-3, 6-1.

The Lady Squires play Wabash tonight at 5:15 p.m. in the sectional semifinal.

Woody Hurls Complete Game; Warriors Win

SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s Carter Woody pitched a complete game to help the Warriors win 5-4 over Concord on Wednesday.

In the Northern Lakes Conference battle, Woody allowed six hits, two earned runs, four walks and struck out six.

At the plate, Parker Young led the Warrior offense with three hits. Levi Brown and Woody both had two hits.

Brown had three RBIs, and Jairus Boyer and Jake Crousore both had one.

Wawasee had 10 hits, compared to Concord’s six. The Minutemen left eight runners on base and the Warriors left five on base.

Wawasee plays at Lakeland on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Patton Crushes Home Run; Warsaw Falls At Home

The Warsaw baseball team fell 6-2 against Elkhart Memorial on Wednesday.

Warsaw’s Liam Patton produced the offense. He had a two-run home run in the first inning to highlight the scoring.

Michael Nunez pitched four innings and had two earned runs for the Tigers.

Warsaw plays at Mishawaka tonight.

Sturtsman Strikes Out 14; Squires Down Zebras

ROCHESTER – In a Three Rivers Conference game, Manchester won 5-1 against Rochester on Wednesday.

Manchester’s Hayes Sturtsman earned the win. He struck out 14 batters, allowed three hits, walked two and had gave up one unearned run.

Sturtsman had two hits and an RBI for the Squires. Thane Creager and Trey McNall both had a hit and an RBI. Mason Meyer, Kaleb Fluke and Jeremiah Airgood all had a hit.

Manchester visits Central Noble on Saturday for a doubleheader.

Concord Scores Late, Defeats Wawasee

DUNLAP – Despite outhitting Concord 9-6, the Wawasee softball team lost 2-0 to the Lady Minutemen on Wednesday.

Wawasee’s Maddison Mottern led the team with two hits. Bethany Flannery had a double.

In the circle, Kiaundra Olson pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs in the sixth inning. She struck out three batters.

The Lady Warriors play at South Bend Adams tonight. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.
