Triton vs. Argos

Triton fell just short of a sectional championship Saturday night, falling 53-49 to Argos in overtime in the final game of 1A Sectional 50 at Culver Community. The Trojans end their season with a 15-9 record.

Triton erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to come back and force overtime before being outscored 9-5 in the additional period. Junior Addyson Viers was terrific in the loss, finishing with 24 points and eight rebounds before fouling out. Jenna Bules added a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

The Trojans defeated Marquette Catholic 45-30 on Friday night to advance to the championship game. Viers contributed 17 points and 20 rebounds in the semifinal game while senior Kinsey Atkins added nine.

Triton will return next season.

Lakeland Christian vs. Southwood

Lakeland Christian was unable to avenge an early season loss to Southwood Saturday night, falling 59-39 in the championship game of 1A Sectional 53 at Southern Wells. The Cougars wrap up the season with a 15-7 record.

Before falling in the championship, LCA defeated host school Southern Wells handily on Friday night, winning 63-33. Reese Stonebreaker led the way with 21 points and was followed closely by her sister Mattie who finished with 17.

Lakeland Christian will return next season.

Boys Basketball

Chesterton at Warsaw

Some sharp shooting from visiting Chesterton was too much for Warsaw to overcome Saturday afternoon as the Tigers fell 71-56 to the Trojans at the Tiger Den. The Tigers are now 11-8 this winter.

Chesterton shot a blistering 63% from the field for the game, including 73% in the second half. Warsaw was led by 18 points from Jaxson Gould as well as eleven points from Drew Heckaman. The Tiger’s point guard, Carson Gould, was dishing it all game long and finished with seven assists.

Warsaw will look to get back in the win column Tuesday at Marion.

Maconaquah at Tippecanoe Valley

Tippecanoe Valley made it an even 10 wins in a row Saturday night after defeating Three Rivers Conference foe Maconaquah 83-70 at Rita Price Simpson court. The Vikings are now 15-3 this season.

Tippy Valley used a monster second half to pull away from the Braves and improve to 7-1 in the TRC this season. The Vikings will look to make it eleven wins in a row Friday when the team travels to Denver to take on a struggling North Miami.

Garrett at Whitko

Whitko made it two wins in a row Saturday, defeating Garrett 53-44 at home. The Wildcats are now sitting at 4-12 this season.

Brent Bowers and Riley Harman were both lights out defensively, finishing with 16 points apiece. Kyler Krull also added 12 points to go with 10 rebounds.

Whitko will try to make it three wins in a row Tuesday when the team hosts Central Noble.

Caston at Triton

Triton snapped a short skid Saturday, defeating Caston 43-34 at the Trojan Trench. The Trojans are now 9-7 this season, 4-1 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference. Triton is back in action Tuesday at Trinity.

Lakeland Christian at Smith Academy

Lakeland Christian used a nice second half to propel past Smith Academy Saturday evening, winning the game 41-27. The Cougars are now 14-3 this season.

Seth Martin scored 24 points to lead the team once again. Micah Martin added seven points while Alex Cook scored five.

Warsaw, Tippecanoe Valley, Wawasee at Penn Regional

The Warsaw Wrestling team traveled to Penn High School on Saturday to compete in the Regional Round of the IHSAA State Series.

The Tigers had 3 wrestlers make it through the morning round of matches and advance to next weekend's semi-state.

Jaxson Walters earned a couple more pins to advance to the finals at 182 pounds.  The senior pushed his record to 33-8 with a runner-up finish.

Junior wrestlers, Bryce McNees and Elias Garza also advanced for the Tigers.

McNees had a couple of pinfall victories on his way to a third-place finish at 106, and now sits at 26-10 for the season.

Garza won by pin to start the day and battled through a tough 120 field to bring home a fourth-place finish.  He is currently 22-13 heading into next week.

Three Warsaw Wrestlers will be looking for a call-up as alternates for next week -

Nathaniel Rosas at 195, Danny Moon at 152, and Isaiah Martinez at 126.

Also representing Warsaw at Penn were Grant Cook at 145, Bryson Brown at 160, Isaac Beam at 220, and Kameron Kauffman at 285.

Warsaw's trio of qualifiers will compete next Saturday at East Chicago Central High School in the Semi-State, with the top four advancing to the State Finals.

Tippecanoe Valley advanced three wrestlers to the Semi-State. Bazle Owens (195) and Dalton Alber (220) advanced after finishing second in their respective brackets while Galvin Shambaugh (132) advanced after taking third. The trio will also compete at East Chicago Central next weekend.

Wawasee’s Kaleb Salazar (106) won his second straight regional title Saturday morning, leading the way for what was a tremendous outing for the Wawasee wrestling team. The Warriors finished the day with a third place finish and will advance 10 wrestlers to next week’s Semi-State.

Also advancing for Wawasee are Colten Sutton (4th place, 126 pounds), Titus Taylor (4th, 132), Logan Stuckman (3rd, 138), Ethan Rodriguez (3rd, 145), Hunter Miller (3rd, 152), Gavin Malone (2nd, 170), Cameron Zimmerman (3rd, 182) and Donovan Blair (3rd, 195).
