BLOOMINGTON – The Indiana high school boys track and field state meet was held at Indiana University on Saturday.

Avon won the state title with a team score of 66. North Central (47) finished second, Hamilton Southeastern (44) was third, Fort Wayne Northrop and Pike (36) tied for fourth place.

The Wawasee Warriors ended with two points scored as a team.

Wawasee’s Luke Griner finished in eighth place in the 800-meter run to garner Indiana All-State honors. He crossed the finish line in 1:56.27.

Tippecanoe Valley’s Jameson Baker ended his throwing career with an 11th-place nod in the shot put. He had a toss of 53 feet, 11-1/4 inches. Dakota Parker finished the 400-meter race in 51.13 seconds and received a placing of 23rd.

Warsaw’s Justin Fleming finished  19th in the 1600-meter event. He had a time of 4:23.27 to earn the Tigers’ top mark at the meet. Hunter Metzger finished 21st after a 12 foot, 6 inch effort in the pole vault.

The 4x800-meter relay of Nolan Groninger, Xavi Ramirez, Taylor Mills and Tanner Stiver ran a time of 8:19.90 and finished 25th.

A highlight at the event was Plymouth’s Nate Patterson, who broke his own state record in the high jump. Patterson cleared a height of 7 feet, 4 inches to take the title and have a new state and state meet record. 

Frankfort’s Colton Crum broke a three-year old record in the pole vault. He soared over the bar at 17 feet, 6-1/4 inches to pass the old record by 1/4 of an inch.
