COLUMBIA CITY – Warsaw ran its streak of boys tennis sectional titles to nine straight after a 4-1 win over Wawasee Saturday morning in a final much more competitive than the final score might indicate.

In the No 2 singles match, Warsaw’s Quinn Martin needed a pair tightly-contested tiebreakers to beat Zeke Keim 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4). At No. 3 singles, the Tigers’ Zachary Nicholas won in straight sets over Jay Duncan.

The No. 1 doubles team of Wil Boren and Tristan Anderson dropped a first-set tiebreaker before roaring back 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3 over Wawasee’s Grant Brooks and Blaine Baut. The 2-doubles match also went three sets, with Michael Ray and Cole Rhodes taking a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Ty Brooks and Nathan Harper.

Wawasee’s Holden Babb will advance to individual regional play by virtue of his 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Hayden Anderson.

Warsaw will face Culver Academies in the regional semifinals, with host Peru and Bremen playing in the other semi. The regional championship match is set for Wednesday.

Whitko’s David Ousley will also compete in the individual regional in Peru.
