WINONA LAKE — Ten top-flight boys basketball teams will converge at Grace College’s Orthopaedic Capital Center Saturday, Dec. 19 for the Champions of Character Classic.

Warsaw is one of 10 teams in a field which features may highly-recruited players, including Notre Dame commits J.R. Konieczny (South Bend St. Joseph) and Blake Wesley (South Bend Riley), Illinois commit Luke Goode (Homestead), Purdue commit Fletcher Loyer (Purdue), Indiana Tech commit Blake Davidson (Leo) plus Connor Essegian (Central Noble) and Aidan Lambert (Fort Wayne Snider).

Among squads in the final 2019-21 Associated Press poll are Shenandoah (No. 1 in Class 2A), St. Joseph (No. 5 in 3A) and Central Noble (No. 8 in 2A).

The current Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Top 20 has Homestead ranked No. 5 and Riley No. 20.

Attendance will be limited because of COVID-19 social-distancing measures. A limited number of resale tickets will be sold by each school. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Each game will also be live-streamed (HD) online as a pay-per-view option.

The event is named the Champions of Character Classic in order to help promote the IHSAA’s initiatives of sportsmanship and character building among high school teams. Each team will also select a Champion of Character Award winner, who will be honored prior to tipoff before every contest.

Because of COVID issues, East Noble has dropped out of the Classic. Organizers are actively seeking a replacement.
