Track And Field
Whitko sophomore Gwen Howard built off of a spectacular freshman year with a great showing at the Indoor State Track and Field meet at Indiana University’s Gladstein Fieldhouse this past Saturday.
Howard ended her day ranked second in the state in shot put, first in the state in the small schools category. She set a new personal record on her first throw of the day, which measured 43 feet, three-quarters inches and allowed her to reach the finals. During the finals, Howard set another PR with a throw of 45 feet, three inches to win the indoor small school shot put event.
Boys Basketball
The Northern Lakes and Three Rivers Conferences announced postseason awards this week, with a handful of local athletes being honored.
In the NLC, Warsaw seniors Jaxson Gould and Drew Heckaman were each selected to the all-conference team. Wawasee’s Maddux Everingham was selected as a conference honorable mention. Conference winner and state champion NorthWood had three players selected to the first team, as well as the coach of the year in Aaron Wolfe.
Tippecanoe Valley seniors Tayde Kiser and Nolan Cumberland were each selected to the TRC all-conference first team.
The Times-Union would like to congratulate each of these athletes on fantastic seasons.
Football
Manchester head football coach Alyx Brandiewie is leaving the program to accept the head coaching position at Eastside High School, Eastside and Brandiewie confirmed in a tweet Tuesday afternoon. Brandiewie went 8-22 in three years as Manchester’s head football coach.
