Wawasee Defeats Elkhart Memorial In Extra Innings

ELKHART – The Wawasee baseball won 6-4 over Elkhart Memorial on Thursday in a Northern Lakes Conference extra-inning contest.

The Warriors scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Chargers.

Wawasee’s Josh Slabaugh was the winning pitcher after tossing two innings of three-hit ball. He allowed two earned runs and struck out two batters.

Blaine Greer led the team with two RBIs and two hits. Jairus Boyer and Parker Young both added a double and RBI to help the team.

Both teams play in a rematch tonight at Wawasee. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Whitko Smashes 3 Home Runs; Beats FW Wayne

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko softball team won 17-0 over Fort Wayne Wayne on Thursday.

Whitko’s Augusta Garr got the win inside the circle. She allowed one hit in the four-inning game. She was a double away from the cycle at the plate. She had two singles, a triple and a home run.

Emmy Duggins was a double shy of the cycle as well. She had two singles, a triple and a home run. 

Ellie Snep ripped a single and home run for the Lady Wildcats. Madison Smith had two singles and Anna Ousley had one hit.

Whitko visits Oak Hill tonight.

Lady Tiger Netters Claim Nonconference Victory

CULVER – The Warsaw Lady Tiger tennis team won 4-1 against Culver Academies.

All three singles players won in straight sets for Warsaw.

Liza Lewis won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Ella Knight won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and Alyssa Zellers won 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 singles spot.

The No. 2 doubles match went into three sets and a tiebreaker for the Lady Tigers. The duo of Raegan Merchant and Rachel Yeager lost the first set 6-3, but came back and won 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) to claim the match.

The Lady Tigers host Goshen on Monday at 5:15 p.m.

Valley T&F Teams Defeat Culver Community

AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley boys and girls track and field teams hosted Culver Community on Thursday. The Valley boys won 66-56 and the girls won 98-19.

Valley’s Dakota Parker won the 400 and 800-meter races. He finished third in the 100-meter sprint.

Jameson Baker won the shot put and discus field events for the Vikings. Will Hassenplug ended in third place in both events.

Jon Humes and Chase Brower finished first and second, respectively in the long jump. 

Alyssa Brito won the 200-meter race and long jump for the Lady Vikings. 

Caleigh Byrer had a first-place mark in the 100 and 300-meter hurdles races.

Delaney Wagoner finished first in the 800 and 1600-meter events. She ended in second in the long jump.

Cora Alber finished first in the discus and third in the shot put. Hannah Gibbons finished first in the shot put and second in the discus.

Valley competes in the Three Rivers Conference Meet on Tuesday at Indiana Wesleyan University.



Norwell Beats Whitko Golf

SOUTH WHITLEY – The Whitko boys golf team lost 171-176 to Norwell on Thursday.

Whitko’s Kaleb Busz and Cade Bechtold both shot a 43 to lead the team.

Kylar Bryant fired a 44 and Dale Reiff carded a 46. Jonathan Strayer rounded out the golfers for the Wildcats with a 55.

Whitko plays at the Northfield Cole Memorial Invitational on Saturday.



Kruschwitz Medals For Manchester Golf

HUNTINGTON – The Manchester Squire golf team won 168-191 against Huntington North on Thursday.

Manchester’s Harley Kruschwitz was the medalist with a 37. Nathan Self followed closely with a 40.

Konrad Borgmann shot a 45 and Mathias McLaughlin fired a 46. Logan  Parrett carded a 52 and Klayton Hendrix shot a 55.

The Squires are now 7-1 and will compete at the Northfield Cole Memorial Invitational on Saturday.



Wawasee Golfers Win

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee Warrior golf team won 173-195 over Jimtown on Thursday.

Wawasee’s Zach Leedy was the medalist with a 42. Dillon Drake finished second at the match with a 41.

Evan Dippon had a 44 and Luke Weisser shot a 46. Jared Krugman rounded out the golfers for Wawasee with a 53.

The Warriors play at the Concord Invitational on Saturday.
