HANOVER – The Manchester University football team was not able to overcome a fast start by the host Hanover College Panthers on Saturday afternoon as the Spartans fell 56-7.

Hanover scored three times in the first quarter to grab a 21-0 lead.

Senior quarterback Austin Roberts accounted for MU's only touchdown of the day, scoring on a 32-yard run in the second quarter.

Hanover was dominant on both sides of the ball on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers racked up 618 yards of total offense. The Spartans were limited to 136 yards of offense.

Freshman Devontay Moore led Manchester with seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Jaquan Walker finished with five tackles and three pass breakups.

Manchester (2-5, 1-3 HCAC) will return home to host Bluffton University Saturday. Kickoff from Burt Field is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

VB Program Honors Seniors In Finale

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester Spartans played their final home volleyball match of 2019 against Mount St. Joseph on Saturday. The program took a moment to recognize its two seniors, Emily Bailey and Anna Marie Lawrie, prior to the start of Saturday's match against the Lions.

MSJ defeated the Spartans in four sets following set scores of 25-17, 27-25, 11-25, and 25-20.

For the Lions, Brooke Aselage totaled 16 kills while Sam Buschur posted a game-high 40 assists. Three Lions finished in double figures in digs.

For Manchester, Samantha Campbell totaled 15 kills and hit .500 for the match. Campbell also had four solo blocks and three block assists. Both Kara Heckmuller and Halle Planck finished with 14 kills. Heckmuller added three solo blocks. Anna Marie Lawrie led three Spartans in double figures in digs with 16.

Lauren Gandhi and Alexandria Collins finished with 23 and 22 assists, respectively.

Manchester will have three games remaining this season, all of which will be played on the road. On Wednesday October 30, MU will travel to rival Anderson for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Ravens. The Spartans will conclude the 2019 season next weekend with a road trip to Hanover Friday and No. 23 Transylvania Saturday.

Men’s Soccer Topped By Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE – The Manchester University men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Rose-Hulman Saturday.

The teams played to a scoreless draw after 45 minutes of action. However, Rose-Hulman netted three goals in the second half to secure the win. RHIT scored in the 56th, 67th, and 76th minutes.

Manchester's offense was held in check on Saturday as the Spartans were limited to just two shots.

The Spartans (4-3 HCAC) will host Bluffton at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Good Field. Manchester will be playing its final home game of the regular season.
