Lady Squires Fall To Winamac At Grace College’s MOCC

WINONA LAKE – Manchester held a three-point lead at halftime, but Winamac pulled ahead in the third quarter and went on to a 39-33 non-conference girls basketball win over the Lady Squires at Grace College’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center Saturday night.

“We struggled in the second half to find some rhythm on the offensive end,” Manchester coach Jacob Everett said. “Winamac did a good job of taking away some of our options.”

Eva Bazzoni had 10 points to lead the Lady Squires, and Kiera Hatfield had eight rebounds.

Manchester won the junior varsity game 37-22 over Winamac. Gabbie Brewer had 12 points and Kennidy Lauer scored nine points for the Lady Squires.

Next up for Manchester is a home game with Class 2A No. 1 Oak Hill on Saturday.

LCA Cruises To Win

WINONA LAKE – Hope Fancil had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Tori Calizo added 11 points and five rebounds for Lakeland Christian in its 37-19 non-conference girls basketball win over visiting Elkhart Christian Saturday.

Brady Gross pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

Lakeland Christian led 11-4 after the first period and 21-11 at halftime. The lead expanded to 31-13 at the end of three quarters.

The Lady Cougars improved to 3-1 and will play at North Miami Tuesday night.

Whitko Falls Short In Comeback Bid

FAIRMOUNT – Whitko’s girls basketball team trailed by 17 points in the second quarter before trimming the deficit to six by halftime, but ultimately dropped a 64-56 decision to host Madison-Grant in non-conference play Saturday.

Ellie Snep had a monster game for the Lady Wildcats, with 26 points and 20 rebounds.

“Ellie was simply unbelievable. She took her team on her shoulders and until the very end kept us in a position to win the game," Whitko coach Rick Bragg said.

Kayla Schipper and Anna Ousley scored nine points each for the Lady Wildcats.

Next up for Whitko (1-6) is a game with Bremen in the Tippecanoe Valley Thanksgiving Classic at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Goshen and Tippecanoe Valley play the first game at 10 a.m. The consolation game of the tournament will be at 6 p.m., followed by the championship matchup.



Warriors Go 5-0 At Warsaw Tiger Invitational

Five Wawasee wrestlers claimed weight-class championships to help the Warriors win all five of its matches at the Warsaw Tiger Invitational Saturday in the Tiger Den.

Wawasee won 46-21 over Huntington North, 62-14 over Fort Wayne Northrop, 66-6 over Warsaw, 65-9 over South Bend St. Joseph and 54-24 over Calumet.

Braxton Alexander (132 pounds), Garrett Stackman (138), Isaiah Faroute (145), Alex Castro (182) and Elisha Tipping (285) each won all five of their matches to win titles. Jace Alexander (106), Chris Schuller (126), Logan Baugh (152) and Raymon Torres (160) won four of their five matches. Ricardo Romo (113), Fernando Hernandez (170), Damien Rodriguez (195) and Dalton Pearish (220) went 3-2 for Wawasee.

Warsaw won one of its five matches, defeating St. Joseph in the last match of the day. Grayson Drudge went 4-1 at 182 pounds for Warsaw, and Jose Grimmett went 3-2 at 145.

Both teams will compete in the Wawasee Super Duals on Saturday.



Valley Goes 1-4 In Tourney

CULVER – Tippecanoe Valley opened its wrestling season Saturday, going 1-4 at the Culver Academies Super 6 duals.

Valley beat Hanover Central 55-24 and lost 56-24 to Plymouth, 54-18 to Culver Academies, 39-33 to Triton and 42-36 to Knox.

Jon Humes (152 pounds) and Isaac Lowe (195) went 4-1 on the day. Haley Hoover (106), Luis Castillo (138), Jordan Owens (145) Isaac Randall (170) and Joseph Irons each went 3-2. Jacob Eherenman (132) and Ian Becker (220) claimed two wins each, and Haylee Brown (120) won once.

Triton results were not available as of press time.

Valley will host Peru in a Three Rivers Conference match Nov. 29. Triton will compete against Culver Community and Winamac at Rochester Wednesday.
