ELKHART – The Warsaw girls basketball team overcame poor shooting for a 37-26 win Wednesday in a Northern Lakes Conference game at Elkhart Memorial.

The Lady Tigers shot 27 percent.

“Shooting percentages were almost as cold as the temperature,” said Warsaw coach Lenny Krebs. 

Abby Sanner led Warsaw (12-6, 3-1 NLC) with 15 points, while Maddie Ryman added nine points.

Warsaw led by four points after the first quarter and by one point at halftime. 

The Lady Tigers held the one-point advantage heading into the fourth, where they outscored Elkhart Memorial by 10 for the double-digit win. 

Warsaw hosts Goshen Saturday in its final home game of the season.

Bazzoni Leads Squires Over Peru

PERU – Eva Bazzoni scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Manchester girls basketball team to a 51-45 win Wednesday in a Three Rivers Conference matchup at Peru. 

“I thought our defense spurred our offense, especially in the second half, and I could not be more proud of the young ladies that are being developed in our program,” said Manchester coach Jake Everett. 

The Lady Squires (10-7, 5-1 TRC) trailed 11-9 after the first quarter and 20-17 at halftime, but pulled off a 26-13 third quarter to lead by double digits heading into the fourth.

They were outscored 13-8 in the final quarter, but held on for the victory. 

Kennedy Fierstos scored 18 points, dished out four assists, nabbed four steals, and pulled down three boards for Manchester. 

The Lady Squires won 43-39 in the JV game. 

Ranissa Shambarger scored 12 points for Manchester, while Mackenzie Day had 10 points. 

Manchester will play Saturday at Wabash. 



Whitko Falls to Norwell

SOUTH WHITLEY – Emalee Duggins scored 11 points, but the Whitko girls basketball team was defeated 68-22 Wednesday in a home game against Norwell. 

Norwell led 17-5 after the first quarter and 36-9 at halftime. The Lady Knights cruised to victory in the second half.

Ellie Snep scored seven points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats (3-14), who will play Saturday at Southwood. 



Valley Edges Rochester

AKRON – The Tippecanoe Valley wrestling team won 40-36 Wednesday in a home match against Rochester.

Valley’s Hunter Eherenman (120 pounds), Jon Humes (160) and Brandon Hammer (170) won by fall, while Drake Montelongo (120) won a 13-0 major decision. 

The Vikings picked up forfeits at 126, 195 and 220. 

Valley will compete Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Goshen Invitational.
