NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – Manchester University junior distance runner Enrique Salazar is set to compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this weekend Geneva, Ohio. Salazar will compete in the 10,000m which is slated to be held on Thursday May 26 at 9:15 p.m. This year’s championships will be held at the SPIRE Institute.

Salazar (Plymouth) had track campaign for the history books. After narrowly missing indoor nationals during the winter, Salazar was able to punch his ticket to the outdoor championships after setting a new school record in the 10,000m at the WashU (Mo.) Distance Carnival in early April – a time of 29:46.52 which has him seeded 12th in the event.

Both the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Distance Indoor and Outdoor MVP, Salazar was the top point scorer for the Black & Gold at this year’s conference championships and held lead the Spartans to their first-ever track & field titles. The four-time HCAC Male Track Athlete of the Week established five new school records in 2022. Salazar was named Manchester University’s Male Athlete of the Year on May 9.

In order to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships, for each men’s individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student athletes were accepted into the championships. For each women’s individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student athletes were accepted into this year’s championships. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into this year’s championships by the NCAA.

Salazar will be joined in Ohio by fellow Spartan Carley Camp, who will compete in the shot put on Friday.
