The IHSAA revealed the first opponents of the second season in the sectional pairings draw show Sunday night. Area boys’ basketball teams among all four classes will begin their journey to Banker’s Life Field House in Indianapolis by way of their respective sectional tournaments.

The area’s lone class 4A squad, the Warsaw Tigers, drew a first-round bye in Sectional 4 at Elkhart’s North Side Gym. There are no easy outs in the six-team field comprised of Concord, Elkhart, Goshen, Northridge, and Penn. The Tigers were 3-2 against the field in regular season play.

The orange and black join the postseason in semifinal action Friday,   March 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they face the winner of the Tuesday, March 2, clash between Concord (9-9) and Elkhart (11-10).

Warsaw lost to the Concord Minutemen January 22 in the Tiger Den 37-33 but reversed their fortunes to win eight straight games thereafter. They needed a game-winning bucket to beat the Elkhart Lions 57-56 on January 30 in North Side Gym.

Northridge (16-4) drew a bye on the other side of the bracket. The Raiders will play at 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 5. They will face the winner of the Tuesday, March 2, opening round fray between Penn (8-10) and Goshen (7-14).

Area Class 3A teams, Wawasee (9-11) and Tippecanoe Valley (6-14), will launch Sectional 21 Tuesday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. to earn the right to face NorthWood (11-8) Friday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. The sectional is hosted by West Noble in Ligonier. The five-team field also includes West Noble (10-9) and Lakeland (9-10) who will clash in the other semifinal Friday, March 5, at 6:00 p.m.

Area Class 2A teams Whitko (12-7) and Manchester (11-7) start their postseason drive in Sectional 36 at Bluffton. The eight-team field features perennially state-ranked Fort Wayne Blackhawk (19-3), and four of the teams currently boast winning records.

Whitko opens tournament play at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, against TRC foe Wabash (4-15). Manchester will battle Adams Central (8-12) Wednesday, March 3, at 7:30 p.m. in first-round action. A win would put the Wildcats in the 6:00 p.m. semifinal contest Friday, March 5. Manchester would play at 7:30 p.m. if they survive and advance. Other Sectional 36 entries include host Bluffton (7-12), Fort Wayne Canterbury (2-13), and South Adams (13-7).

Triton (14-5) begins its postseason run Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. against winless West Central at Culver Community High School in Class 1A Sectional 50. The six-team field has only one other team with a winning record (Argos 15-4). The other three teams in the field include host Culver Community (7-12), LaCrosse (4-14), and Oregon Davis (6-9), who drew a bye, and would face Triton if they win in round one.

The Trojans beat Oregon Davis 83-55 January 4th, and lost to Argos 51-39 last Saturday.

The area’s other Class 1A team, Lakeland Christian Academy (9-9), travels to Sectional 53 in North Miami Tuesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. when they’ll face Smith Academy (2-13). A win by the Cougars puts them up Northfield (6-14) who drew a bye for a 7:30 semifinal matchup Friday, March 5.

Southwood (10-10), Southern Wells (2-17), and host North Miami (5-14) round out the six-team field.
