The Northern Lakes Conference announced Monday Warsaw was the winner of the boys all-sports conference championship, as well as all-conference selections for baseball and softball.

The Tigers boys shared conference championships in basketball with Elkhart Memorial and in golf with Plymouth, and was second in cross country, soccer and track and tied Plymouth for second in football. Northridge won the girls all-sports title; the awards represent a switch from 2017-18 when the Raiders won the boys award and Warsaw the girls title. Wawasee was seventh in the girls standings and eighth in the boys race.

Wawasee placed four players on the All-NLC softball team and three on the all-conference baseball team. Warrior softball players were Faith Swihart, Graceanne Kerlin, Abigayle Smith and Bethany Flannery. Delaney Hare earned honorable mention.

Warrior baseball players on the all-conference team were Levi Brown, Kam Salazar  and Parker Young. Carter Woody earned honorable mention.

Izzy Dittmar of the Warsaw softball team was all-conference, with Lindsey Bradley named as honorable mention. Tiger baseball player Liam Patton was named to the all-conference squad, with teammate Noah Burgh receiving honorable mention.

Others named to the all-conference softball team were: Concord – Yadi Gomez, Alexis Kern, Alysa Marcin, Zoey Stender; Goshen – Olivia Koshmider, Brynn Shoup-Hill, Ashton Darnell; Elkhart Memorial – Cadence Lee, Amber Asher, Ashley Asher; Northridge – Meghan Bontrager, Allison Hostetler, Ashley Beckler, Madison Weinart; Plymouth – Amialla Wojcik.

Honorable mention: Concord – Slylar Decker, Madison Loge; Goshen – Makayla Snyder; Northridge – Jenifer Robinson; Makenna Knepp; Memorial – Shelby Weidner; NorthWood – Kennedy Hostetler; Plymouth – Ann Anders.

Dawn Austin of Concord, who stepped down after the season, was name NLC softball coach of the year.

Others named to the all-conference baseball team were: Northridge – Davis Enfield, Drew Gayler, Carter Gilbert, Nick Logan, Hayden Nickell; NorthWood – Cooper Davis, Matt Dutkowski, Alec Holcomb; Plymouth – Cole Filson, Jesus Luva, Tim Tremaine; Goshen – Dominick Reyes, Skylar Reyes; Memorial – Landon Lee, Dylan Rost; Concord – Drew McDougle.

Baseball honorable mention: Northridge – Cam Walters, Ben Becker; NorthWood – Trey Allman, Jaden Miller; Plymouth – Jacob Deacon; Goshen – Austin Cain; Memorial – Drew Pressler; Concord – Hunter Dutton.

Northridge’s Andrew Brabender was named conference coach of the year. The Raiders were conference baseball champions. Brabender served a one-game suspension in the regional for a pitch-count violation in a sectional championship game.

Tiger Boys Hoops Assistant Coach Arrested

Hal Gunter, 71, an assistant boys basketball coach at Warsaw Comm-unity High School, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail for operating a vehicle while intoxicated Satur-day.

Gunter, of 829 W. CR 600S, Claypool, had bail set at $700.

Other than confirming Gunter’s position and to say it would be a matter for the school corporation’s human resources department, Warsaw athletic director Dave Anson declined an opportunity to comment on the situation.
