Basketball Tourney In Akron
AKRON – A double-elimination 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held in Akron’s park on July 4.
Registration for the tournament is $40 and can be completed by mail or on the day of the competition. Play in the 11-under, 13-under and 15-under divisions will begin at 9 a.m. and break for Akron’s July 4 parade. High school and open divisions will begin play at 12:30 p.m.
The tournament is for boys and girls, but girls may be playing against boys if there aren’t enough teams. Game time is forfeit time, and rosters are limited to four players. Teams will be placed in divisions based on the age of the oldest player on the roster. In case of rain, the tournament will be moved to Akron Elementary School.

Water Ski Lessons
The Lake City Skiers will hold the second of three learn-to-ski clinics on July 17, and the final event will be August 21. Registration begins at noon, with the lessons from noon-1 p.m., 1-2 p.m. and 2-3 p.m. Each session will be limited to 10 participants per session on a first-come, first-serve basis.
There is a $20 fee for each participant.  Students only need to bring a swim suit and a towel. USA Coast Guard-approved life jackets, skis and instructors will be provided by the Lake City Skiers. All participants and family members are encouraged to stay for water ski show at 6:30 p.m.

‘Sparkler 50’ At Akron Speedway Saturday
AKRON – A full show is planned for the races at Akron Speedway Saturday night including the Sparkler 50, a Clone 360-pound race with $500 to the winner, provided there are at least 10 entries. Trophies will be awarded for the top three places. The entry fee for the race is $30.
The evening will also feature a kid kart special, with a $10 entry. A Clone Light 325-pound Class 2016 AKRA big pipe, open clutch race will be contested, with a $25 entry and a 75 percent payback.
The rain date for the races is Aug. 13.
Pit passes will be $10, $5 for children under 5. General admission for the night is $1, with kids under 5 free. The races are part of the Akron July 4 weekend activities.
