Lane, McKeever Lead LCA To Boys Soccer Season-Opening Win

WINONA LAKE – Brayden Lane scored a pair of goals and exchanged assists with Garrett McKeever for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 3-2 overtime win over visiting Elkhart Christian Academy in Northern Indiana Soccer Conference action and the opener for both teams Tuesday night.

Lane scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute to tie the match at one each, the assisted McKeever when he retied the match at two in the 73rd minute.

McKeever returned the favor in the clutch, assisting Lane when he scored the game-winner three minutes into overtime.

Peter Koller was busy in the goal for the Cougars, recording 13 saves.

“The guys played with tremendous effort and heart tonight,” said Cougar coach Dan?Miller. “Brayden Lane scored two goals, but he also did an incredible job anchoring our backline. Peter Koller made two key saves in goal, and Garrett McKeever was able to finish a breakaway goal to send the game into overtime. We played with 12 players tonight, and still showed such resilience to come back twice and win.”

The Cougars will travel to Denver to take on North Miami at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Wawasee VB Sweeps Valley

SYRACUSE – Emma Dippon had 10 kills and three digs, and Kai Jamora had 18 digs and a trio of aces to lead Wawasee to a 25-21, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of visiting Tippecanoe Valley in a non-conference volleyball match Tuesday.

Leslie Vazques had six kills and four blocks, and Amanda Allen had 22 assists and six kills for the Warriors. Bailey Mayhew added 11 digs for Wawasee.

Statistics for the Vikings were not available as of press time.

Tippecanoe Valley is back in action tonight at Plymouth. Wawasee travels to LaGrange to take on Lakeland Monday.

Squires Rebound For TRC?Win

NORTH MANCHESTER – One night after getting swept, Manchester rebounded for a 25-14, 25-21, 25-11 Three Rivers Conference volleyball win over visiting Peru Tuesday night.

Statistics from the match were not available as of press time.

Next up for Manchester (1-1) is the Elwood Invitational Saturday.

Whitko Downs LCA

WINONA LAKE – Morgan Howard had a dozen kills and seven assists to lead visiting Whitko to a 25-8, 25-7, 25-7 win over Lakeland Christian Academy in non-conference volleyball Tuesday.

It was the first IHSAA varsity volleyball match in Cougar history.

The Wildcats got 15 assists and six aces from Katelyn Cripe, with Abbi Frank adding eight digs.

Whitko opens its home schedule Thursday against Columbia City. Lakeland Christian will travel to Community Baptist Christian School Friday.

Manchester, Triton Compete On The Links

NORTH MANCHESTER – While Triton didn’t have enough players for a team score, the Trojans paid Manchester a visit for a nine-hole girls golf competition Tuesday.

The match was originally scheduled to include Caston at its home course, but due to COVID-related restrictions in Fulton County, the Comets dropped from the match and it was moved to Sycamore Golf Club.

Kayla Hippensteel was medalist with a 52 for Manchester. Other Squire scores were Delani Henderson, 59; Emma Ulrey 61, Alexis Gerahart, 64; and Chaney Tennant, 69.

Maddie Ritchison paced the Trojans with a 55, fllowed by Lilly Hubert at 63 and Haley Rensberger with a 67.

 Next up for Manchester is a four-way Three Rivers Conference match with North Miami, Rochester and Southwood at Peru Municipal Golf Course Monday.

Triton returns to Sycamore on Thursday to play host Whitko.
