Lady Cougars Win Twice In Tournament Play

WINONA LAKE – Hope Fancil scored 15 points in each of Lakeland Christian’s two girls basketball wins Thursday in the LCA Cougar Classic. The Lady Cougars earned a 38-20 win over South Bend Trinity in the first game and edged Covenant Christian of DeMotte 34-33 in the second contest.

Tori Calizo had nine points in the opener and 10 in the second game. Anna Reimink finished with 12 points in the two games.

LCA will play Kalamazoo (Mich.) Home School in the championship game. Tipoff is at 4 p.m. today at Grace College’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.

McDaniel Scores 1,000th Career Point For Cougars

WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian senior Josh McDaniel scored his 1,000 career point in the second game of the LCA Cougar Classic Thursday at Grace College. The Cougars dropped both games, 37-32 to South Bend Trinity and 76-56 to Covenant Christian.

McDaniel’s milestone came on a three-pointer in the third quarter of the Covenant Christian game. He had a team-high 11 points against Trinity and 19, including five treys, against Covenant.

Landon Twombly had 10 points against Trinity, and his brother Noah had 14 in the Covenant game.

The Cougars took a 3-7 overall record into the fifth-place game of the tournament against Noble-Whitley County Home School this morning.

Whitko Falls Twice

HUNTINGTON – Whitko lost both of its boys basketball games Thursday in the Columbia City/Huntington Tournament. The Wildcats fell 63-33 to Huntington North and 58-46 to Leo.

The Wildcats have two more games today; this morning against Norwell and one more this afternoon, with opponent and time dependent on the results of the morning contest.
