NORTH MANCHESTER – Lakeland Christian Academy scored first, but it was the Class 2A 14th-ranked Manchester Squires that dominated Tuesday evening’s high school boys soccer game at Good Fields.

In the third minute of the 80-minute match, LCA’s Parker Stewart scored an unassisted goal to put the Cougars up 1-0.

The hosts took control from there, scoring five unanswered goals and allowing LCA just three more shots in a 5-1 non-conference win.

“Manchester is an offensive juggernaut, they put a lot of pressure on our backline and we didn’t handle it as well as I would’ve liked,” said LCA coach Dan Miller, whose team fell to 8-3-1 on the season while Manchester’s record remains perfect at 9-0.

“We will learn from our mistakes in this game and get better. Parker Stewart was a handful tonight and fully deserved a goal. Credit Manchester, they are a good side, and this game will serve as a learning tool as we move into the final weeks of the season.”

Manchester’s Brandon Wagoner scored the unassisted equalizer in the 25th minute, and then Isaiah Davis assisted Caleb Stout on what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute.

The Squires added one more goal before halftime, as Davis assisted Wagoner in the 36th minute to push Manchester out to a 3-1 advantage.

Harley Kruschwitz scored both of the Squires’ goals in the second half, as he was assisted by Justin Self in the 45th minute and by Wagoner two minutes later.

Manchester outshot LCA 17-4 and had an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Remington Swanson was credited with 12 saves in the net for LCA, while Manchester’s Konrad Borgmann made three stops.

In their nine games this season, the Squires have outscored their opponents 65-7.

Manchester is in action again Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. Three Rivers Conference match at Peru.

The Cougars host Tippecanoe Valley Thursday at 5 p.m.
