TOPEKA – Led by the Calizo sisters and a second-half surge, Lakeland Christian Academy’s girls soccer team became the first team in school history to win a sectional championship in any sport Saturday.

LCA, which joined the IHSAA in 2013, beat Westview 4-2 in the finals of the Westview Sectional, ending the host school’s title streak at seven.

The Lady Cougars trailed 1-0, but got a goal from Torie Calizo to tie the score.

After trailing 2-1 at halftime, Torie Calizo knotted things up again with another goal.

Jessi Calizo scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal when she gave the Lady Cougars a 3-2 lead.

Torie Calizo rounded out the scoring and completed the hat trick, as LCA improved to 14-3-2 on the season.

Jessi Calizo had two assists in the game, while Anna Reimink had one.

Maddie Paris made four saves in net for the Lady Cougars.

Westview finished the season with a 7-10-2 record.

The Lady Cougars won the sectional title by beating its three opponents by a combined score of 16-2. LCA beat Elkhart Christian Academy 5-0 in the first round, followed by a 7-0 victory over Lakewood Park Christian in the semifinals.

LCA will be in action again Saturday in the LaVille Regional at Newton Park in Lakeville.

The Lady Cougars will play top-ranked Wheeler (19-0) in the second semifinal, which is scheduled for approximately noon.

Argos will play the winner of the Boone Grove Sectional, which is yet to be determined, in the first semifinal.
