On Friday, students at Warsaw Community High School had the opportunity to serve their community during the newly revitalized Service Blitz.

Hosted by the Student Council Service Committee, this event gave students the choice between eight different non-profit organizations and agencies in the Warsaw area, according to a news release from Warsaw Community Schools.

Service Blitz was originally an annual event, but it has not been held since 2016. Volunteers first heard from National Honor Society sponsor and WCHS counselor Mandy Bailey, who was the keynote speaker of the event. After orientation, students loaded buses provided by WCS and rode to their respective locations. Participating in Service Blitz gave students three volunteer service hours.

Locations of service included the American Legion, Animal Welfare League, Combined Community Services, Community Apple Orchard, Head Start, Magical Meadows Therapeutic Horseback Riding Center, Miller’s Merry Manor and Warsaw Meadows Care Center. Over 80 students representing all four grades were in attendance.

Some of the volunteer activities included planting trees, socializing with residents, sorting canned goods and clothing, painting, cleaning and playing with animals.
