The 14th Annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser benefiting Kate’s Kart will be held June 25.

Participating local ice cream shops include Kelainey’s Ice Cream, Winona Lake, and Sugar Creek Meats & Treats, South Whitley.

Support local small businesses and celebrate 14 years of Kate’s Kart. Volunteers will be at each location handing out book bags and books as well as playing games and collecting donations to support Kate’s Kart’s mission. Thanks to the Don Wood Foundation, all children attending will receive a brand new STEM friendly book, while supplies last.

For the past 14 years, Kate’s Kart has made a profound impact on families through the gifting of books to children in hospitals, according to a news release from Kate’s Kart.

Kate's Kart is a not-for-profit organization that supplies free books to hospitalized children to keep for their enjoyment.  Through the gifting of new books, Kate’s Kart strives to provide a distraction to children experiencing life in a hospital setting.  In just 14 years, the organization has grown to service 21 northeast Indiana hospitals via 34 book Karts. A team of 100 volunteers, plus hospital staff give away approximately 3,500 brand new books every month to hurting or scared children in the hospital. To date, over 340,000 books have brought smiles, distraction and hope to hospitalized children and their families.
