American Legion Auxiliary Holds Appreciation Dinner
Staff Report
Thursday, April 14, 2022 9:50 PM

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 49 had its annual appreciation dinner on April 5.
Approximately 30 Auxiliary members attended the celebration.
Unit President Kathy Breske opened the night welcoming three guests: National Central Division Vice President Denise Delaney, Department Auxiliary President Rose Ann Dzieglowicz along with her husband Past Department Commander Marty Dzieglowicz and 2nd District President Peggy Eagen.
Commander John Mort was on hand for a few remarks and words of appreciation as well, according to a news release from the Auxiliary.
The appreciation dinner is an annual event given to the Auxiliary Unit by the Legionnaires and Sons of the American Legion for the Auxiliary’s support for them and their programs throughout the year. They help the Auxiliary with its children’s Christmas party, the poppy program in May and many other charity events throughout the year.
The Auxiliary had a memorial service for the four members lost in 2021: Jean Bradbury, 30 years; Idlee Armey, 67 years; Sandra Bornes, six years; and Karen Smith, 47 years.
Breske honored her parents, Otto and Evelyn Sparks, with a special gift for all who attended. Otto and Evelyn were very involved in the American Legion, both held several offices in a Legion in Rossville, Ill. Their involvement with The American Legion and support of the military, veterans and volunteering was always a priority.
The menu included herb chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans.
Everyone received a gift from the Auxiliary unit to take home.
The Auxiliary had a few speeches and socializing before leaving for the evening.
Many members expressed their enjoyment from the dinner and are looking forward to April 4, 2023, the next appreciation dinner, stated the release.
The Sons and Legionaries provide the food and service for this annual event and the Auxiliary greatly appreciates each of them that helped.
