Woodies Supermarket Educational Scholarship Trust Awards $30,800
Friday, May 20, 2022 5:03 PM
Each year, Warsaw Community High School and college students who graduated from WCHS are given the opportunity to apply for the Woodies Supermarket Scholarship Fund. This year, 13 high school and 11 college students were granted scholarships totaling $30,800 to pursue their academic careers.
The Woodies Supermarket Scholarship Fund was founded in 1978 by Woodie and Devota Schramm. Woodie was a businessman in Warsaw and Bremen and was the founder of Woodies Supermarkets. His wife, Devota, was a teacher at Atwood Elementary. The Schramms chose to share the rewards of their hard work and dedication to give young people an opportunity to pursue higher education, according to a provided news release.
The scholarship fund has contributed approximately $940,000 to 1,518 Warsaw graduates since the fund’s inception in 1978. Sonya Hoskins, Woodie and Devota’s daughter, leads the Woodies Supermarket Educational Scholarship committee.
This fund is locally managed by the Warsaw branch of 1st Source Bank’s Wealth Advisory Services.
