A Silver Lake woman was arrested earlier this month on battery charges after allegedly slapping and pushing a man and then kicking a police officer twice.

Tina Marie Cole, 36, of 408 N. Elm St., Silver Lake, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail Aug. 4 for battery, battery on law enforcement and resisting law enforcement. Her preliminary bond was set at $5,250.

Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against her as battery on a law enforcement officer, a level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; battery, a Class B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.

On Aug. 4, Silver Lake Police officer Eric Kelly responded to a fight at Cole’s address. When he arrived, he spoke with Cole who was yelling and being uncooperative. Cole stopped talking to the officer and attempted to walk away, at which time Kelly stopped her.

Kelly spoke with a man who said Cole was being difficult so he asked her to leave. At that point, Cole began to slap and push the man and refused to leave so the man’s wife call 911.

As the man was telling Kelly his side of the story, Cole pushed and attempted to slap him.

Police attempted to take Cole into custody, but she immediately kicked Kelly twice in the groin, causing him intense pain and dizziness, the report said.

She continued to struggle while being  handcuffed. During the struggle, Kelly received several scrapes and cuts to his knees and legs.

Cole refused to walk to the patrol vehicle so officers dragged her to the backseat, according to court documents.

Her initial hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 4 in Kosciusko County Superior Court III.
