AKRON — The Tippecanoe Valley School Board was updated on academic initiatives, as well as athletic accomplishments, at Tippecanoe Valley High School.

At its regular meeting Monday at TVHS, the board heard the annual report on TVHS from Principal Brandon Kresca and his staff.

One of those initiatives was helping students graduate with a year of college credit through the Indiana College Core program. There are 31 juniors involved in it.

The board also heard about Valley students being involved in work-based learning via internships. Tippecanoe Valley athletes who set records in various sports were recognized, and the board heard that teacher Jonathan Tinkey is to teach a Principles of Criminal Justice class next year, with that coming about related to Valley students' participation in a mock trial competition this year.

Valley Student Resource Officer and Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputy Rick Shepherd will help with that class.

In other business, the board:

• Approved the hiring of Valley Early Learning Academy instructional assistant Juel Back and making Courtney Kindig VELA's coordinator. Both women were present at Monday's meeting.

• Approved Tricia Sederholm as the TVHS girls soccer coach.

• Accepted the resignations of TVHS Spanish teacher Nataly Lopez and Akron Elementary School instructional assistant Andrea French and cook Lindsy Shambaugh.

• Accepted the following Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services grants: $206 for Akron reading interventionist Hayley Parker for phonics resources; $484 for Akron fourth-grade teacher Chris Rassi for 3D printers; $370 for Akron special education teacher Ryan Adams for pop-up distract-free workspaces; $188 for Akron music teacher Kayla Rassi for rhythm sticks; and $552 for TVHS art teacher Lisa Lynch for art equipment and supplies.

The board's next regular meeting is 6 p.m. April 17 at Mentone Elementary School.
