According to court documents, on Saturday, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call where the victim had been stabbed and had multiple bite marks.

The victim stated he had gone to the address where the incident took place to check on his children and was helping give several of his children a bath when he smelled something burning. Upon investigation, he saw Stahl was burning a stuffed animal on the bed next to her while holding a child and rocking back and forth. The victim, according to court documents, stated he threw the burning stuffed animal out into the yard, which the deputies found.

The victim stated when he returned to the house, Stahl kept turning on the oven and gas stove burners, trying to fill the home with gas. The victim stated he tried to prevent her from doing so, but she kept trying to turn the burners on.

According to court documents, the victim struggled with Stahl to get the child away from her. During the struggle, Stahl picked up a knife from the kitchen and was attacking him. She allegedly stabbed the victim in the neck and inflicted multiple bite marks on him while the victim was trying to stop Stahl.

At one point, Stahl had her thumb down the child’s throat, trying to keep the child’s mouth open as she was putting water down the child’s throat by placing the child’s mouth under the running faucet.

According to court documents, officers saw the stab wound and bite marks on the victim and there were a total of five children that were present at the time the stuffed animal was left burning on the bed. Officers allegedly could smell a strong odor of gas in the residence.

Stahl was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:02 a.m. Wednesday. Her bond was set at $21,000.
