A Nappanee teen had to be flown by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend Saturday after suffering injuries in a one-vehicle crash.

Lamar J. Slabaugh, 18, of 9515 W. CR 1350N, Nappanee, was traveling east in his 1995 Chevrolet Blazer around 11 a.m. Saturday on CR 1050N when the right side tires of his vehicle dipped off the right side of the road, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department accident report.

Slabaugh overcorrected and lost control. The SUV then skidded off the north side of the road and it came to rest at the bottom of an irrigation ditch.

He managed to crawl from the crash and call 911.

The accident report said Slabaugh had a severe injury to his right leg and potential internal injuries.

Damage was estimated at $2,500 to $5,000.
