Court documents filed Tuesday afternoon indicate Jeffery Lee Brewer, 34, of Kendallville, fled with more than $750 when he allegedly robbed Lake City Bank in Pierceton Saturday.

He was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail for robbery after Warsaw police received a tip he was at the Holiday Express Inn in Warsaw early Tuesday morning.

Along with a level 5 felony robbery charge, he also faces a level 6 felony theft charge. His preliminary bond was set at $10,000 surety and $250 cash.

On Oct. 6, Pierceton Police Department officer Jim Bumbaugh responded to a robbery at the bank, When he arrived, he interviewed a teller who said a man dressed in a gray hoodie and jeans approached her window with a pink girl’s backpack and gave her a note stating, “look but all the money in here now,” according to court documents. She said she put more than $750 into the bag the man was carrying.

Bumbaugh and Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Chris Francis viewed surveillance video and identified the suspect as Brewer.

Pierceton Police Chief Tim Sammons interviewed a witness who said he saw a person entering the bank carrying a pink backpack and had a piercing on his left cheek. The witness saw the suspect hand the backpack to the teller and then later run through the lobby and out the door.

Sammons interviewed another witness who saw someone running from the bank, get into an orange Dodge Challenger and drive away.

Francis talked with Brewer’s girlfriend who said she talked with Brewer earlier on the cellphone and he told her he had just robbed the bank.

When Sammons spoke with Brewer, Brewer admitted he robbed the bank and left in the Challenger.
