BRISTOL – It’s a night of improv at Comedy Criminals Winners’ Night on Sept. 23.

The two winning troupes from Elkhart Civic Theatre’s Comedy Criminals Improv Festival and Competition in April will present extended performances at ECT’s Winners’ Night at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Bristol Opera House.

Based in North Webster, Main on Main Improv – previous festival winners and winners of the 2017 Comedy Criminals Peoples’ Choice Award – will kick off the night with their brand of improvisational comedy. Trained by actress and filmmaker Jessica Hardy, Main on Main continues to perform because “they don’t have anything better to do,” according to a news release.

Then the Judges’ Choice Winner, Same Difference, from Valparaiso, will take the stage. Same Difference is one of two teams under the auspices of Disposable Theatre, an ongoing improv workshop in Valparaiso, with several Second City-trained members.

Both troupes won lots of laughs – and the top honors – at the improv festival on April 1, giving them bragging rights and a chance to perform in a more extended format on Winners’ Night.

Improvisational comedy is a style of performing that grew out of actors’ exercises, and is used to develop shows at Chicago’s Second City, IO Improv and “Saturday Night Live.”

Bristol Opera House is at 210 E. Vistula St., Bristol.

All tickets are $16, and available by phone at 574-848-4116 weekday afternoons or online at
