10 Years

4-H Fun Shoot was held Friday, April 7, on Roy Gregory's property south of Warsaw. About 30 kids participated in archery, shotgun, pistol, and rifle events. Gary Dant, chairman of the Shooting Sports Club, assisted Ryan Crippen with his finger grip for archery; Fred Vining assisted Matthew Erickson with his aim.

    The Kiwanis Club of Warsaw was chartered April 4, 1921 at the Hotel Hays and became the 453rd club as part of Kiwanis International, which was organized in Detroit, Mich. in 1915. Current officers: Joan Hoke, president; Chuck Whitcraft, Chet Clampitt, vice president; Joni Truex, John Pritz, secretary; Darrin Miller, Burt Ramsey, treasurer. Directors: Lee Hartle, Tom Robinson, Jo Faulkner, Larry Peppel, Mike Suhany, Andy Garrett and Suzie Light.

Warsaw Fire Department purchased a junior-sized fire protection suit to use in their education program for youngsters. Ashley Hile, 5, tries it on. Robert and Sharon Sanders, Warsaw, donated a Polaroid camera so pictures can be taken of the children.

    Bill and Debbie Stevens, Dan Kreger, Frances Townsend, Judy Wheaton and Greg Stoddard are awaiting processing of FCC applications to become licensed amateur radio operators. They passed the 10-week class taught by the Hoosier Lakes Radio Club.

    Penguin Point Systems has announced the appointment of Janet Ault, Claypool, as the assistant purchasing agent. She has been catering director for the 22-unit Indiana-based chain and started expansion of her duties this month.

Keith Hale, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Hale, is champion elementary speller at the Claypool School. Runner-up is Mike Brown, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendall Brown, Silver Lake. Maxine Slone, 14, daughter of Mrs.  Alonao Slone, Silver Lake, is the champion for the eighth-grade; Virginia Slone, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Slone, Silver Lake, was runner-up.

    Mike Kinney, fifth-grader at Madison Elementary and son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kinney, Warsaw, is top speller. Brent Magers, 11, fifth-grade and son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Magers, Warsaw, was runner-up. Winning word was "flexible."

    Danny Zile, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Zile, Silver Lake, received his "God and Country" award at an impressive service at the West Eel River Church of the Brethren.

75 Years

The Sidney Community Chorus, under the direction of Robert Coyle, of North Manchester, will give a program Friday evening, March 14, in the Sidney High School gym. Special feature will be the "Bargain Hunters," dressed in costumes of the "gay nineties." Floyd Stevens, of near Claypool, is president of the organization and director of the speaking parts.

    Dave Rankin, of Warsaw, placed fifth in the 70-yard low hurdles in the Big Ten indoor track and field meet Saturday, March 8, at the Purdue fieldhouse. He failed to place in the high hurdles; Encel Dodge failed to place in the broad jump.

    County Agent Joe Clark spent Monday, March 10, in Fort Wayne attending the district stallion show. Kosciusko County had no entries in the show this year.
