10 Years:

Jim Bumbaugh announced his candidacy for Kosciusko County Sheriff.

Bumbaugh, a member of the Pierceton Police Department, is running unopposed on the Democrat Party ticket during the primary election May 2. Born in Warsaw, he left this area in 1982, spending the next 12 years in the U.S. Navy. He served two tours aboard the 7th Fleet Flagship Blue Ridge home ported in Yokosuka, Japan.

25 Years:

Principals for three elementary schools were approved the the Warsaw School Board Monday night. Dennis Duncan, assistant principal at the high school, will become the Atwood principal. Duncan has also served three years as the summer school supervisor. He has previous administration background at Silver Lake and Atwood schools.

Deborah Weaver will be the Claypool principal. She has 12 years of experience in the school corporation. Jeff Neumann, currently principal at Monnett Elementary School in Rensselaer, will serve as principal at Madison Elementary.

50 Years:

The quick thinking of a 17-year-old Claypool High School student prevented serious injury to his father when fuel exploded while the two were refueling a farm tractor. John Conley and his father Bert Conley and another son Ron, 15, were finishing field work for the day when the explosion occurred. The elder Conley was thrown to the ground by the force of the explosion. John quickly wrapped his father's hands with his jacket smothering the flames.

75 Years:

Miss Maxine Miller, senior at Claypool High School, is Claypool's egg shipper's representative in the contest for queen of the Mentone Egg show. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cloise Miller living near Claypool.
