10 Years

Warsaw Community Schools students displayed their talents at the sixth annual EdCom Expo Saturday, March 25, in the Tiger Den. Junior Alf Eherenman showcased the pottery wheel that he made from scratch; it took him about three months to design, engineer and build.

    East of Chicago Pizza recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open their new facility at 2616 Shelden St., between Wal-Mart and Kohl's on Ind. 15N. The owners are David and Debra Hollar, with their daughter, Gina and her husband, Luis Bordones, as general manager. "We offer our signature peanut butter and jelly pizza for dessert."

25 Years

Mentone assistant principle Jon Parker sent a Mentone Bulldogs hat to Willard Scott of NBC's "Today" show, who wore the hat and invited the nation to the school's science fair March 12. The school has the segment on videotape in case anyone missed it.

    Warsaw Fire Department has a new truck in the station. The truck was driven 373 miles from Appleton, Wis., before running out of fuel a block from the station. Firefighters had to go out and fill the tank on Center Street by Lake City Bank.

    Wera Shepherd, Warsaw, became a new U.S. citizen in March. She has lived in this country for more than 20 years.

50 Years

Induction ceremonies at the Freshman High School Wednesday evening, March 9, for membership in the National Junior Honor Society: Steve Miller, Jake Eschbach, Sid Sanderson, Laura Jansma, Nancy Quillen, Steve Himes and Jim Richards. A reception for parents and other guests was held following the ceremony.

    A feature of the sacred concert of the Warsaw High School Choir and the Belles Sunday night, March 13, at the Warsaw Baptist Church will be the mixed quartet composed of Gene Steiner, Jane Heaton, Lynn Adkinson and Dick McClain.

    Carolyn Horton, Warsaw Community High School senior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Horton, was selected as a finalist in the Indiana Sesquicentennial High School public speaking contest, with finals held Saturday, April 23, at Indiana University.

75 Years

Shirley Ann Schue celebrated her tenth birthday anniversary Saturday, Feb. 22, with a party at her home on East Market Street. The house was beautifully decorated in red, white and blue. The honored guest received many lovely gifts. A slumber party was enjoyed by Betty Zimmerman, Barbara Fawley, Patricia Baughman, Joann Heagy and Rosemary Wangler. Rosemary won the prize in monopoly.

    Mrs. Edward Cox hosted 14 members of the Martha Washington Club Friday afternoon, Feb. 21, at her home on East Main Street. Mrs. W.C. Smith read two poems; Mrs. Russell Anglin and Mrs. Herbert Smith read papers in tribute to Lincoln.

    Forrest Deeter, of East Center Street, dumped 2,000 pennies on Dentist W.W. Shipley's desk in payment for his dental work.
