10 Years
Local artists excelling at the Wabash Honeywell Center's Nine-County Art Show: second place in the painting category, Edward Castile, North Manchester, and third place, Susan Ring, North Manchester; third place in the drawing and pastels category, Beverly Garner, Warsaw, and Robert Hudson, Winona Lake. Their work is on display through Feb. 18.

    The Indiana Angus Association elected its 2006 board of directors Dec. 30. Bruce Lamb, Milford, is a board member, and his son, Brent, was named director of the Indiana junior board. Bob Bishop, Leesburg, is chairman of the Hoosier Beef Congress junior show. John Camden, Pierceton, was elected Region 1 Director of Indiana Beef Cattleman's Association.

25 Years
Cora (Sponseller) Zentz was 18 when she played piano and sang at the Etna Green United Methodist Church dedication, Feb. 6, 1916. Now at 93, she is the only living member of the church who attended that dedication service. This Sunday, Feb. 10, she plans to join the congregation at the corner of Broadway and Pearl streets in celebration of the church's 75th anniversary. Rev. Ronald Dixon is pastor. To date, six generations of Cora's family have attended the church. In 1969, she and her late husband, Elman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary there. Three of her children and a granddaughter were married.

    The church was first organized as a class meeting by circuit rider Rev. Peter Cartwright in 1865. In 1866, Rev. M. Wayman became the first pastor. The first church building was erected behind the present in 1878 under the pastorate of Rev. N.E. Tinkham. Construction of the present brick building was begun in 1914.

50 Years
William Reneker, a 30-year YMCA career officer, becomes the new Executive Director of the Kosciusko Community YMCA on March 1, according to "Y" President Jack Lowe. He replaces Donald Reap, who had been director since 1962, but was promoted to a state YMCA position Jan. 1. Robert "Sandy" Saunders, has been acting director. Reneker is married and has three sons; Randy, 6, Robby, 3, and Ricky, 1. He is presently the YMCA Executive Director at Hobart, Ind. In a letter to Vice President Joe Shellabarger, Reneker said, "My wife and I are certainly looking forward to meeting and working with the people of Kosciusko County.

75 Years
During a period from December 12, 1940 to January 10, 1941, Plain township schools led all other Kosciusko County schools in attendance, with a mark of 97.7 per cent, it was announced by Marion Longfellow, county attendance officer. Next highest was Wayne at 97.5 per cent. Total enrollment was 4,418; average daily attendance was 4,224 of which 1,651 were neither tardy nor absent.

    Farm land in Plain township, northwest of Warsaw, will be offered for sale on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the law offices of Widaman & Widaman, on order of the Kosciusko circuit court. Allan S. Widaman was appointed to sell the property.

    Claypool's Orval Drudge and Robert Taylor wrestled with a cow that had slipped on the ice and fallen into a ditch near their farm homes.
