10 Years

 While on a cruise, Rosemary Parsons participated in the All-American and International Dance competition for people over age 50. She received a Gold Award in the All-American Dance Championship and a special Dancers Award, tap dancing to "Top Hat." Parsons is a member of Warsaw Dancin' Grannies and a former member of Shirley Bell's Dance.

    Jefferson Elementary and Eisenhower have been named Four Star Schools by the Indiana Department of Education for the 2004-05 school year. Dennis Duncan has been principal of Jefferson for 15 years; Chris Gensinger is principal of Eisenhower. This is the school's tenth award.


25 Years

Thanks to a 4-1 vote by the Triton Community School Board Tuesday, Jan. 22, the old Triton gym will be saved. Demolition of the adjacent Triton Elementary will begin in June, but the gym will be retained as an extra practice area for Triton athletes and for community use. Construction of the new elementary building is expected to be complete by March, with students scheduled to occupy the building in April.

50 Years
The newly-organized Kosciusko County Historical Society will meet in the courtroom of the courthouse Jan. 18 to elect officers and adopt a constitution and by-laws. Ralph Brubaker, Leesburg, serves as treasurer. The youngest charter member is Kevin Steffe, 3, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Steffe, Warsaw. The family live in the old Hudson Beck property. He was a prominent Warsaw merchant, later becoming the second president of Lake City Bank. Mr. Beck's father, Metcalfe, was one of the first settlers in Kosciusko County, born in 1812 in a parish of Yorkshire England and coming to this country in 1835, settling in the vicinity of Leesburg, where he was a highly respected merchant. He served the county as one of the first historians, passing away in 1896.

75 Years

A Burket trio composed of Delta Dean Doran, Ileen Sarber and Mrs. Esther Nelson, will compete in the state rural entertainment festival at Purdue University Tuesday, Jan. 14. The girls had won the district contest at Fort Wayne several weeks ago by singing "I Love a Parade" and "Syncopated Lullaby."

    Ice skating is pretty good on area lakes. A spot behind the Owen Betz home on North Lake Street is a favorite haunt. It is sheltered from the wind, and has a comfy outdoor fire place to warm frozen fingers and feetsies.

    George Lambert began his duties at the Lake City Bank, Warsaw, on Monday, Jan. 13. He was formerly employed at the North Webster bank.
