G. Curtis “Curt” and Patricia “Pat” Smith VanDeWater, Warsaw, will be celebrating 60 years of marriage Friday. A small family celebration has been planned at Christmastime.

The couple were married at the Clunette United Methodist Church in 1960. The bride’s attendants were Joanne (Leek) Rhodes and Janet (Romine) Smith. The groom’s attendants were William (Bill) Bess and Thomas (Tom) Smith, both deceased.

Curt retired from Sprint in 1993, after 34 years of service. Pat retired in 2008 from Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation after serving as a bus driver for 35 years. Both are active members of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Atwood and several local clubs. Pat regularly attends Kosciusko Ladies Home Extension Club meetings and participates in the County Chorus. Curt, a veteran of the U.S. Army, is an active member of the Atwood Lions Club and Hoosier Lakes Ham Radio Club.

The VanDeWaters are parents to five children: the late William; Greg (Tonya) VanDeWater and Leslie (Doug Jeffreys), of Warsaw; Deshawn (Mike Wert), of Sweetser; and Julia VanDeWater, of Brewton, Ala.

They have six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Grandchildren include: Sara (VanDeWater) Bridenbaugh and her husband Cody; Zac VanDeWater and his wife Kristen (Paul); Kyrsta (Jeffreys) Lenon and her husband Adam, Andrew Jeffreys and his wife Hanna (Shields); Brenna (Jeffreys) Shennum and her husband Gabe; and Riley Wert. Their great-grandchildren include Daniel, Jacob, Ollie and Ben Lenon and Alden Jeffreys.
