A Warsaw woman accused of stealing a car, then abandoning it at a gas station, is in jail.

Brianna J. Fields, 29, of 519 W. Winona Ave., Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:11 p.m. Tuesday and faces a Level 6 felony charge of auto theft.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Sept. 16 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Aug. 28 a Warsaw Police Department officer responded to a report of an abandoned silver 2000 Ford Focus at the Meijer gas station. Police discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen.

Court papers state that a Meijer employee told police a woman, matching the description of Fields, had driven the vehicle to the gas station on Aug. 26 but the car died. When the woman was unable to get the car to start, she got help from another person at the gas station, pushed the car to the front of the store and abandoned it.

Police were able to identify Fields through Facebook and Meijer surveillance footage.

Her bond was set at $10,250.
