WABASH - A Roann businessman was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash in Wabash County.

During a telephone interview Friday night, Indiana State Police Trooper Mike Tomson confirmed Steven Allen Brandt, 59, died aboard a Samaritan helicopter flight on the way to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne Thursday evening.

Brandt, who has served as co-owner of Brandt's Harley Davidson, Wabash, since 1973, was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle south on CR 700W, north of CR 400N Thursday night.

The motorcycle left the west side of the road and flipped at least once, ejecting Brandt before stopping in a ditch. Brandt was not wearing a helmet, Tomson said.

A passing motorist discovered Brandt and called 911 about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, when officers arrived from the Indiana State Police and Wabash County Sheriff's Department.
An autopsy will be scheduled to determine cause of death, and results are expected to be available in four to six weeks, Tomson said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Tomson at 800-382-0689.

The Roann Fire Department, Wabash Fire Department, Wabash County EMS and Wabash EMS assisted at the scene.

Brandt's full obituary appears on page 3A of today's Times-Union.
