It’s “dark as heck” one East Market Street resident complained Monday about the lack of lighting along the Warsaw street.

But by the end of the week, there will be light.

Before the Warsaw Common Council meeting Monday night, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said the East Market Street project isn’t supposed to be complete until this week.

“That’s when I expect the project to be done. That’s when I expect the lights to be on. We sent the order in to NIPSCO Sept. 25, and it’s up to them to turn the lights on. We did our part,” Thallemer said. “There’s a switch, and they’re running a line to the switch and I talked to her and she said it will be done by the end of the week.”

Construction on phase II of the East Market Street project started in March and extends from Hickory to Bronson streets. Improvements include new road construction, sidewalks, crosswalks and decorative lighting.
