A 60-year-old man from Bremen managed to escape uninjured after the ethanol tanker he was driving left the roadway, rolled several times and then caught on fire.

Police responded at 6:24 p.m. Thursday to the accident at CR 800W, north of CR 400N, and discovered Roger L. Reed had been driving a 2003 International Trailer, hauling a 1995 Heil, owned by Bellman Oil of Bremen.

Reed told police his tanker was carrying about 7,700 gallons of ethanol alcohol when his tractor/trailer dropped off the shoulder of CR 800W. The tractor/trailer overcorrected, causing the ethanol to slosh within the tank, then the trailer disconnected from the tractor and both units rolled over several times, igniting a fire, police said.

Reed told police he rolled approximately four times, then he cut his seatbelt and forced the door open, as his tractor was on fire. Reed was not injured.

Police said it is possible CR 800W will remain closed through the middle of next week.
