The man accused of burglarizing the Beaver Dam United Methodist Church in July was arrested Wednesday.

Joshua S. Jennings, 38, of 8848 S. South Hill Drive, Silver Lake, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:58 p.m. Wednesday and faces one charge of burglary, a Level 5 felony, and one charge of theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed July 29 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, a member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church told police that a man and a woman entered the church on?July 9 and took two cases of batteries, two flashlights, two radios and two CD recorders. The church provided police with surveillance footage of the incident, which was able to obtain still images of the suspects.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office placed the images on social media outlets in an attempt to identify the individuals and received numerous tips identifying the man as Jennings, court papers state. Police were able to obtain photos of Jennings and compare them with the video footage to positively identify him.

On July 19, a woman called police and said Jennings had provided her with batteries and said he had a large case of batteries with him. The woman also told police that Jennings is homeless and she did not know how he would be able to be in possession of these items.

A warrant was issued for Jennings’ arrest July 29.

He appeared in court for an initial hearing Thursday.

Police said the female with Jennings was not considered a suspect and is facing no charges.
