Editor, Times-Union:

I want to take this time to thank all who have supported me and my family during this rough time in my life. Jim spent time at Lutheran Hospital where the nurses and doctors went above and beyond in making his stay there as comfortable as possible. He was transported to St. Vincent’s in Indianapolis a short while later. They treated him with kindness and respect. They went above and beyond to help him to be as comfortable as possible in his condition. He then was transported home under hospice care through Premier. They were very patient and kind, making the transition almost seamless, especially Misty.

My husband (Jim Nowak) of 47 wonderful years, passed away on March 19th of this year. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father (Paul and Jennifer), brother and overall blessing to all who came to know him. I struggled with all the constraints COVID had put on all of us during his last days with me. I did not have the opportunity to say goodbye in the manner in which he wanted at that time. Sacred Heart and Father Jonathon were very gracious in their efforts to accommodate my family and me. Their hands were tied due to the pandemic, but tried to fulfill every wish we had within the scope of their control. Father Jonathon came over and put my husband’s soul at ease with his words and prayers.  He made Jim glow receiving his final sacrament was finally able to fulfill his last request of military honors recently.  American Legion 49 and VFW 1126 helped his last dying wish come true.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge Titus Funeral Home. Cory Benz and his staff have shown the upmost professionalism throughout from the start. Their dedication and attention to detail should be the standard of care for anyone who has lost a loved one. They have worked with me since March, and continue to follow through to the end to ensure all my needs are met.

I also want to thank all of my friends and family.

I know words in a “letter to the editor” will never give you the thanks all of you deserve. Jim left a footprint wherever he went. People from all walks of his life came to pay their respects, sent flowers/cards, food and reached out to show the care they had for him. I want to also thank my family. I was, and still am, fortunate to be surrounded by so many great friends and family. I could not have gone through this without all of you. You all would have made Jim very happy and proud for the love you all have shown me. It is the most difficult time in my life, but all of you make it just a little easier. Thank you to all of you again.
