Editor, Times-Union:
I apologize for the delay in getting this sincere and heartfelt thank you to all of those involved in the United Way Day of Caring. The way in which this community pulls together to help those in need is remarkable.

For me, the Day of Caring began by so many wonderful and caring people arriving at my doorstep to begin not only the weeding of the landscaping that I so desperately was in need of, but they also began the process of putting on a brand new roof. I had been so concerned about how I was going to pay for a new roof as I just had to replace my septic bed. It seems to all go at once as most homeowners know.

These special people worked so hard and then took a break for lunch; they even asked me to join them. Unfortunately, I was not able to join them as my health was not good. When they returned from lunch, I was so surprised to see they had brought back lunch to me. What a relief, as I was not up to cooking that day.

These special people even came back on Thursday to finish the roof. What a great job they all did. I will never be able to thank everyone properly, but to those of you who were involved, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You will never know what this means to people like me.
