SYRACUSE –  Operation Read announced the launch of its exciting reading incentive program, "Book Boogie," at Syracuse Elementary School for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
The program is designed to ignite a passion for reading among students in kindergarten through fifth grade by rewarding their reading efforts with monthly prizes for the most pages read. Teachers also get rewarded for reading monthly, according to a news release.
"At Operation Read, we understand the importance of fostering a love for reading early on," said DeeAnna Muraski, executive director. "By making reading fun and rewarding, we aim to create lasting habits that will help our community of children become confident, lifelong readers."
The Book Boogie program will encourage students to read regularly and set intentional reading goals each month. By tracking their page counts, students will not only compete for exciting prizes but also develop essential reading skills and comprehension.
Key Features of the Book Boogie Program:
• Monthly Challenges: Each month will feature specific reading challenges to motivate students and keep their reading experiences fresh and engaging.
• Prizes for Participation: Students and teachers will earn rewards based on the number of pages they read, promoting healthy competition and encouraging all participants to strive for their personal best. They will also be competing against prior schools who entered the Book Boogie program.
• Community Engagement: Families will be invited to participate in reading events, fostering a supportive community that values literacy and learning.
• Library Engagement: Students and teachers are encouraged to go to their school and local libraries to discover new books and genres of interest.
The Book Boogie program aligns with Operation Read's mission to encourage the lifelong love of learning through reading. Research shows that intentional reading habits can significantly boost reading rates and overall academic performance. By providing both structure and fun, Book Boogie is poised to make a meaningful impact on the reading culture at Syracuse Elementary.
"We are excited to partner with Operation Read to launch this program," said Karen Brock, principal of Syracuse Elementary School. "We believe that Book Boogie will inspire our students and teachers to continue creating an enriching environment where reading is celebrated."
