FULTON COUNTY - Darci Zolman, the retired director for the Kosciusko County Soil & Water Conservation District, was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday in Fulton County.
At approximately 2:52 p.m. Tuesday, emergency personnel from Fulton and Marshall counties were dispatched to a two-vehicle person personal injury accident at the intersection of U.S. 31 and Ind. 110.
Preliminary investigation by Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Senior Deputy Matt Craig revealed a 2017 Toyota Rav4, driven by Zolman, 67, of Pierceton, was traveling east on Ind. 110, crossing northbound U.S. 31. Zolman pulled into the path of a northbound 2016 Ram 1500, driven by Stephen Bontrager, 67, of Shipshewana, and was hit, according to a news release from the FCSO.
Zolman was seriously injured in the crash and was flown from the scene by Parkview Samaritan to a trauma center. Her condition was unknown as of press time Tuesday night.
Bontrager was transported to Woodlawn Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors and both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, the release states.
Northbound U.S. 31 was closed at Ind. 110 for approximately 2½ hours. The crash remains under investigation.
Assisting the FCSO at the scene were multiple emergency responders from Fulton and Marshall counties.
