A scholarship and an award were presented Tuesday during the Kosciusko County Commissioners meeting.
The scholarship is from the Association of Indiana Counties (AIC) and Nationwide Retirement Solutions. The annual award is presented to children or grandchildren of county employees and is based on community involvement, leadership and worthy goals.
County Councilwoman Sue Ann Mitchell, who is the second vice president for the AIC, announced this year’s recipient - Talia Holder - is from Kosciusko County. She is the daughter of Joy and Bill Holder, the county’s GIS director.
Patrick Burkhart, with Nationwide, said, “We are proud to be the 457 for compensation provider for Kosciusko County. We’re also happy and proud to partner with the Association of Indiana Counties to do things like this scholarship.”
He said if someone hasn’t read Talia’s essay, it’s great. A Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate, she’s participated in tennis, cross country, student council among other school activities. Outside of school, he said Talia’s been involved in youth group, 4-H and volunteering helping with 3-year-olds at church. She’s going to Huntington University, studying to be a dietician.
Burkhart said this was the second year in a row a student from Kosciusko County received the scholarship. Ashley Irwin received the scholarship in August 2022.
Mitchell said, “Talia has participated in the North Webster Kids Business Fair for several years, along with her sister and I believe her brother participated, too. But, she has got a base that is second to none, as far as learning how to do things. So, we are so proud of you, Talia. Thank you.”
It was after Jessica Camarena’s quarterly update on Live Well Kosciusko that Live Well presented the Kosciusko County Health & Wellness Committee with the Indiana Cancer Consortium Employee Gold Standard Award.
