GOSHEN – The Warsaw Tigers entered Saturday’s 2022 Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) boys’ golf tournament tied with the Northridge Raiders at 6-1 in the regular season standings. Warsaw used a convincing 6-stroke victory by Cal Hoskins accompanied by three other Tiger golfers among the top ten finishers to clinch the outright NLC title Saturday at Black Squirrel Golf Course.

Hoskins earned medalist honors with a 67-stroke performance over the 18-hole, par 72 course (36 each on the front and back nine holes) to cap off an already-impressive season to date. Teammates Aiden Bowell (fourth, 77 strokes), Ben Brander (sixth, 79), and Lewis Turley (eighth, 80) combined for a team-title 303-stroke performance over Northridge (316), and Goshen (332). The RedHawks’ third-place finish was their highest finish since their 2003 bronze-medal showing.

Plymouth (344) earned a fourth-place finish on the partly cloudy 67-degree day followed by the NorthWood Panthers (348), a program who earned five straight NLC tournament titles from 2015-2019. Wawasee (359), Concord (367), and Mishawaka (417) rounded out the field.

Jaxson Gould’s 83-stroke outing was not included in Warsaw’s team score, but the junior still finished in the upper third of the individual standings, 13th among the 40-man field. Gould also earned one of ten All-NLC honors along with teammates Hoskins, Bowell, and Brander. Turley earned NLC honorable mention laurels along with Wawasee’s Robbie Finlinson.

The Wawasee Warriors 359-stroke outing was comprised of Robbie Finlinson (87), Vaughn Dyson (90), Myles Everingham, and Jay Finlinson (91 apiece). Caleb Clevenger’s 94-strokes were not included in the team’s total score.

Brock Reschly (Northridge, 73), Earl Williams (NorthWood, 77), and Bennett Christy (Goshen, 79) finished second, third, and fifth place, respectively.

Hoskins’ medalist performance included an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole, and six birdies (1st through 3rd, 13th, 16th, and 18th holes) for a steady 33-stroke front nine outing and a 34-stroke performance on the way back to the clubhouse.

Bowell also eagled the par-5 ninth hole and birdied the sixth for the NLC champs. Turley earned three birdies (6th, 9th, 16th), and Brander added two birdies (8th, 14th) to the Tigers’ tournament effort.

Wawasee’s Jay Finlinson (12th), Dyson (16th) also earned birdies.

Warsaw and Wawasee return to action today in the Bob Turner Classic hosted by Tippecanoe Country Club. Tee time is 4:15 p.m.
